Wireless Security

The Internet by itself is essentially insecure, requiring added measures to protect against leaving your computer open to unexpected visitors.

Unlike dialup service, broadband connections are fast, typically "always on," and they often provide a fixed Internet identity (IP address). These elements in combination can provide easy hunting for hacker probes.

Paperwork provided with OCS wireless installations recommends, "The simplest protection is to ensure that your hard drive is not shared, or that it is password protected. The next level of protection requires a local firewall, for which many consumer-level solutions are available."

All servers in the OCS network center are protected behind a central system firewall. Now, wireless subscribers may add their own accounts to our firewall to provide yet another level of protection and security. You can activate and manage this exclusive OCS feature in User Admin.
